Nutritional analysis labeling
Accurate nutritional labeling is essential for transparency, consumer trust, and regulatory compliance. SMA supports science‑based labeling practices through our software and provides practical tools to help businesses meet both FDA and USDA requirements.
Nutritional Analysis Services
SMA offers nutritional analysis for both single‑ingredient and multi‑ingredient products to members and non‑members at a minimal cost. No physical product samples are required- only complete recipes- making the process efficient and accessible. These services apply to both USDA‑ and FDA‑regulated products, helping companies across the food industry meet labeling obligations with confidence.
Nutritional Facts Panel Options
Processors may select the appropriate Nutrition Facts label format based on product size, packaging, and regulatory needs, including:
Standard vertical
Horizontal
Dual‑column
Aggregate
Linear
Each Nutrition Facts Panel is constructed in alignment with current regulatory standards and best practices. View label format examples here.
Additional Deliverables
In addition to Nutrition Facts labeling, SMA members may also receive:
Nutrient specification sheets
This report displays the nutrient breakdown of your food. Use this report to easily share nutrient data with others.
Protein quality score
The Protein Quality report shows the amino acid score for a recipe. In calculating PDCAAS, the limiting amino acid score from this report is used. It is important that amino acid data be present for all foods in a recipe to obtain an accurate score.
Packaging‑ready label assets
This report collects everything you need to comply with packaging requirements, including the Nutrition Facts, Ingredient Statement, Allergen Statement, Net Weight, and Manufacturer/Distributor name and address. To access this report, you must first create a label.
Ingredient and nutrient analysis
This report displays per-serving or per-100g values of each nutrient for each ingredient, with the totals at the bottom. Use this report to check your Recipe’s nutrient data and look for any missing or incomplete data.
These tools support informed formulation decisions, regulatory clarity, and streamlined product development.
